What is our mission?

We partner with Detroiters to raise up the next generation of leaders who love God deeply, work for justice, and humbly serve our communities (Micah 6:8)

What is Cohort Detroit?

Cohort Detroit is a 10-month spiritual formation program for Christian young leaders. Cohort participants:
  • Gather weekly as a small group for prayer, intentional community, and learning conversations.
  • Learn from experts and pastors about development, ministry, and justice within the Detroit context: themes range from embracing prophetic lament, navigating challenging relationships, and finding resurrection hope in challenging spaces.
  • Travel to Washington, D.C. for our lament learning intensive, and practice sabbath rest during our spiritual retreat in Northern Michigan.
  • Grow relationships with a diverse cohort of young leaders, processing your local work and ministry together: learning as a group how our daily work and service fits with Christ's call to be servants and ambassadors at the margins.
  • Transform through new spiritual habits, regular mentoring and professional counseling

What are Cohort participants saying?

"These gatherings become a part of our routine, and these people become part of our essence… we need that contact"  -KJ

"Our conversations as a group were very flexible and never felt forced. The structure of this model with the invitation of the Holy Spirit to move and lead was awesome. I believe I grew the most in listening to the guest speakers and processing the wisdom and vast experiences they’ve had with personal and institutional racism, influences of culture, and God.” -Amanda

"I really enjoyed delving into the learning on lament as this was a relatively new area of learning for me. I liked looking into the biblical call to lament and recognizing this practice is still important today in modern times." -Joel

"I grew in my relationship in the Lord through taking the opportunity to question, wrestle with, and reflect on infinitely important theology of following Christ. I definitely was challenged in my ability to slow down and experience stillness and quiet reflection." -Tonya

Cohort provided a place for me to experience an encouraging and prayfilled community of likeminded, young leaders. I was able to build new Christ-centered friendships in a space where we were free to show up authentically, read, pray, learn, reflect and be challenged together.  I was continuously inspired and blessed through the deep conversations we shared, the profound (and prophetic) content we explored and the wise words and teachings of guest speakers. -Al-Nisa

One of our most impactful travel intensives is experiencing the Museum of African American History and Culture as we learn about faith, justice, and lament in Washington, D.C.
